La rivista si propone quale contenitore privilegiato per dare conto alla comunità scientifica dei risultati di maggior interesse delle molteplici ricerche nelle quali si articola l'attività della Sezione di Archeologia del Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Antichità dell'Università di Messina: attività rivolte in primo luogo allo studio degli aspetti storici, archeologici, topografici, numismatici e storico-artistici di Calabria e Sicilia, bacino territoriale privilegiato e principale campo d'indagine; attività che però spaziano anche in una più ampia dimensione mediterranea, attraverso i progetti di scavo e di studio nel resto dell'Italia e poi in Grecia, Turchia, Libia, Egitto, etc. Una particolare attenzione viene riservata ai contributi relativi agli aspetti teorici e metodologici della pratica archeologica e ai metodi scientifici d'indagine che ormai costituiscono un imprescindibile strumento di conoscenza per tutte le nostre ricerche. Inoltre, la rivista apre le sue porte ed offre il suo spazio ai contributi esterni di quanti, a vario titolo, colleghi italiani e stranieri di altre Università, Istituti di Ricerca e Soprintendenze operano in sintonia con i metodi e gli interessi del Dipartimento e partecipano con conferenze, seminari, convegni alla vita scientifica dell'Università di Messina.

The journal intends to be a special 'container' for the scientific community to present the most interesting results of the many research projects in which the work of the Archaeology Section of the Department of Science of Antiquity of University of Messina is divided. These activities are directed primarily toward the study of historical, archaeological, topographical, numismatic and art-historical aspects of Calabria and Sicily, main geographic region and main field of investigation of our research; research which also spans the wider Mediterranean with excavation projects and study in the rest of Italy as well as Greece, Turkey, Libya, Egypt, etc. Particular attention is reserved for contributions to theoretical and methodological aspects of archaeological practice and scientific methods of investigation, which creates an essential instrument of knowledge for all our research. Besides, the journal also plans to open its doors to the outside input of those Italian and foreign colleagues from other universities, research institutes and Monuments Bureaus operating in accordance with the methods and interests of the Department and participating in conferences, seminars, and meetings on the scientific life of University of Messina.
