Una collana di edizioni critiche commentate di testi matematici greci è un desideratum di filologi, storici della scienza e studiosi del pensiero antico. «Mathematica Graeca Antiqua» propone edizioni corredate da un'ampia introduzione, da una traduzione e da un commento, coniugando le risorse della moderna critica del testo e le più recenti acquisizioni nell'ambito della storia delle scienze esatte. «Mathematica Graeca Antiqua» accoglie testi inediti e nuove edizioni, con particolare attenzione per opere ritenute 'minori', tardive, ed in cui le tensioni interne al codice letterario della matematica greca siano messe in particolare evidenza. Il testo critico è stabilito sulla base di uno studio accurato di tutta la tradizione manoscritta, l'introduzione colloca nel contesto tecnico e storico l'autore e la sua opera, analizzandone in dettaglio la portata matematica e lo stile; il commento affronta problemi puntuali, sia lessicali che tecnici.

A series of annotated critical editions of Greek mathematical texts is a desideratum of philologists, historians of science and students of ancient philosophy. «Mathematica Graeca Antiqua» offers, besides the edition itself, an in-depth introduction, a translation and a commentary, combining the sophistication of modern textual criticism with the most recent findings in the history of exact sciences. «Mathematica Graeca Antiqua» welcomes editiones principes as well as revised editions of already published texts, especially of so-called 'minor' works, of late texts, and of treatises in which the tensions within the literary code of Greek mathematics are particularly evident. All critical texts are based on a thorough study of the entire manuscript tradition. The introductions set the author and his work into the appropriate technical and historical context, exhaustively analyzing the scope and style of his treatise. The commentaries address specific problems on both a lexical and a technical level.
